TURTLECK.TXT TURTLE SUNDAE CAKE 1 pk (18 1/4 oz) german chocolate 1 pk (14 oz) caramels cake mix 1/2 cup evaporated milk 6 Tbs margarine 1 cup chopped pecans 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips vanilla ice cream (optional) 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. 2. Grease and flour a 9 X 13 X 2 baking dish. 3. Put the milk, margarine, and caramels in a saucepan and place over low heat. 4. Mix the cake mix to package directions. Set aside 1/2 of the batter and pour the remaining half in the greased pan. Bake 18 minutes. 5. While it is baking, stir the caramel mix until the caramels are melted. (this will take most of the baking time if not all of it). 6. Remove the cake from the oven. 7. Remove the caramel mix from the heat and stir in the nuts. Pour over the cake. 8. Sprinkle the chocolate chips over the caramel mix. 9. Cover all of this with the remaining half of the cake batter. 10. Retrun to oven and bake an additional 20 - 25 minutes, or until cake springs back when touched lightly. 11. Cool Completely. Cut into squares and serve (optionally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or dollop of cool whip on top).
